Short Introduction of ReSAC - A Centre of Excellence

The Remote Sensing Applications Center (ReSAC) was established with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the UN in 1998 through the project TCP/BUL/8922.

Till the end of 2004 it was part of the Bulgarian Aerospace Agency - BASA as its R&D structure.

From the beginning of 2005 ReSAC is registered as an independent juridical body and during the past few years works very close to the Agency for Sustainable Development and Eurointegration - ASDE.

As ASDE has signed a Collaboration Agreement with JRC - EU for the period of 2007-2010 and 2011-2016, in this Agreement ReSAC was designated as focal point of ASDE for providing service capability, mainly in R&D area, including EU CAP.

The general goal of ReSAC is to develop RS/GIS applications to agricultural and environmental management, land cover/land use, soil and forest inventory, water resources, environmental hazards, disaster management, risk assessment, urban planning, participation in regional and international projects and cooperation and to conduct training.

ReSAC maintains a qualified specialist competent in a wide range of RS/GIS applications, who benefited of tuitions and on-job trainings organized by FAO/UN, GTOS/FAO, GEOSYS, DLR, AED-SICAD/SIEMENS, Voice-Insight, ISTAR/INFOTERRA, ESA/ESRIN/ESTEC, DG JRC/EC, Map Media, ESRI and others.

ReSAC/ASDE is a distributor for Bulgaria of the main worldwide satellite image providers, such as European Space Imaging (EUSI), e-GEOS, ASTRIUM (SPOT Image), Airbus, SI Imaging Services (SIIS), Euromap - GAF AG and others.

ReSAC elaborates techniques for data integration of various sources, including in-situ measurements. We offer image processing services, which include the whole set of procedures required to bring the imageries to the end-user in a ready-to-use state, e.g. image ordering, orthorectification, enhancement, classification, 3D modelling etc.

For the years since its establishment, ReSAC has fulfilled and participated in numerous projects both at local and international scales. Programs such as GMES, INSPIRE, GAEC, CAP, GEOSS, FLOOD DIRECTIVE are of high priority to ReSAC.

The most important projects of ReSAC are related to Land cover/Land Use, Control of Agrosubsidies with Remote Sensing /CwRS/, Establishment of Land Parcel Identification System /LPIS/, AgroEnv Indicators, Digital orthomap preparation /DOM/, Fast Track Services /FTC/, Voice Technology Development are funded by FAO/UN, DG JRC, EC/FP6, FP7, Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Ministry of Environment and Water, others.

ReSAC is very active in EC/FP7/GMES, participating in Geoland 2, SAFER, COSMOS, EUFODOS and HELM projects.

ReSAC is a member of Bulgarian Information Office for Earth Observation - Copernicus.
